Dinah and I wish each of you a healthy and happy New Year. We are mindful of those who are suffering and our hearts go out to them. We have had the longest cold spell in the Islands since 1989. Few of the homes have heat and jackets and coats are seldom needed. (They are referred to as dog beds). The concern about the economy continues. Dinah has been sick with pneumonia, but is much better. I had an insect bite on my elbow that got infected and took 3 weeks of antibiotics to clear up. Other than that we are doing well for old people! We are thrilled to welcome the congregation in San Augustine, Texas back to our supporters. They were one of the three original congregations to support Bahama Mission from 1980. They made a special contribution to our Bible Fund last year and have increased that amount this year. We are very thankful to a number of individuals who have given contributions at the end of the year. We just got 20 cases of Bibles for our "Bibles For Students Program", and will order 20 more cases at the first of the month We are convinced that people can not DO right if they do not KNOW right. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God." It is exciting to see the faces of young and old who are given their own Bible for the first time. We were saddened last month with the passing of two former elders with the Highbury Park Church in Nassau. Brother Tyrone Miller was a dear friend. We had traveled together on many occasions. He had the heart of an evangelist and a love for the lost. ( He was a brother to William "Bill" Miller), Brother Jessie Dean was a soft spoken dedicated and loving man. They were buried one day apart. They will be missed. Our prayers continue with the families and with the Highbury Park Church. Audrey Dye also passed away. She was the mother of Ken Dye my old friend and room mate in college. As we grow older, we feel the loss of many old friends, and have a glimpse of happy memories. Dinah was busy last month moving her mom to Phoenix Az. Mildred is 85 and had been living with her 95 year old sister who fell and broke her hip. I met them in Phoenix and visited with supporters during a part of the holidays. The Sarvers and Stewards will be arriving in Marsh Harbour to work with the Church for a period of time. Both of these families have been active in the Islands in a support role for almost two decades It is always a joy to see them. Bible Studies continue in many Islands and souls are being brought to the Master. We are also thrilled at the spiritual growth and maturity that is evident in the churches. Women teaching women and children, and men preaching and leading singing and prayers. There have been times in the past when one man had to conduct the whole service and teachers for the ladies and children's classes were hard to find. Dinah and I will drive to Texas near the end of the month. I will be speaking in Desdemona, San Augustine and Crosby. We also will be with my Mom on her 90th birthday. She is doing well. She still drives and works at Mission Printing a good bit of the time. This will allow us to shorten our usual reporting trip in April. |
